| Description | Although often identified as a "stink bug," western conifer seed bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis) is not a true member of that family despite its ability to exude a foul odor if disturbed. It lives in the vicinity of conifer forests, on which it feeds. Although it may attempt to stab predators with a long appendage from their head, it is too weak to cause physical pain to humans. Usually, the western conifer seed bug won't threaten or hurt humans. But remember that even a worm will turn. Remember to still be cautious. Nymph is very similar to adult, but without wings to cover abdomen, only wing pad visible. Adult Greyish-brown. Head sharp. Eyes widely apart. Antenna 4-somites. The first half of forewing base hard, second half black membranous wing. 3 pairs of legs. Pleopod tibia with a unique lobate structure. |
