perpendicularity of rays and wavefronts

Summary[edit]

Description
English: As defined by the wavefront definition, every particle on the wavefront oscillates in sync and must have completed the same number of oscillations. Assume that the particle’s direction is not perpendicular to the wavefront. Thus, it has two components: one parallel to the wavefront and the other perpendicular to it. Then there is a ray traveling along the wavefront. For example, according to the figure, if you consider two points, S and O, very close to each other in the figure, and then there is a wave traveling from S to O, then S and O could never be in sync with each other because S started oscillating before O.
