When a watery diarrheal stool sample is observed to have "darting motility" under a microscope, it suggests the presence of Vibrio cholerae.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: While the darting motility is a strong clue, a definitive diagnosis of cholera requires further tests. Stool samples are typically cultured on Thiosulfate-Citrate-Bile Salts-Sucrose (TCBS) agar, where V. cholerae will produce yellow colonies due to sucrose fermentation. Confirmatory tests include serotyping and molecular methods such as PCR.
