Description The Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin from the Washington Monument. The Jefferson Memorial was built iln 1939-1943. A bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson was added in 1947. The 14th Street Bridges across the Potomac River to Arlington, Virginia are in the background, as seen in 1968. I believe that one of the roads behind the memorial leads to an additional road bridge. The top bridge is a railroad bridge.
