English: Wardley Hall The home of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Salford. Built c 1500 with restoration in the 19th Century.
In this hall is a human skull placed in a small aperture at the top of the staircase. This is the skull of Saint Ambrose Barlow, who was a priest during the reign of William III. He was hung, drawn and quartered at Lancaster on September 10th 1641, having been arrested at another local Catholic family home (56434). His head was taken to a relative, living at Wardley Hall. |
