WANDA
 JACKSON
At seventeen, Wanda Jackson was a straight-ahead
country singer when she toured with Elvis Presley
in 1955. Presley advised her to rock & roll, and she
soon recorded scorching rave-ups such as “Let's Have
a Party.” She scored a surprise hit in Japan in 1958
with her explosive version of “Fujiyama Mama.”
Jackson returned to country music in the early 1960s,
racking up hit singles and writing Buck Owens's 1962
success “Kickin' Our Hearts Around.”
