Description
English: Walton's Monument above Nelson. Said to have been built in 1835 by the Rev Rowe Walton of Marsden Hall. It is 27 feet tall and keeps the Shelfield Farm trig point company in a cow field. The monument stands on what is thought to be the site of a great battle, the Battle of Brunanburgh, fought in AD 937.
