Summary
[edit]DescriptionWYDC-TV studios, Market Street, Corning, New York - 20221012.jpg |
English: The studio building of WYDC-TV, located at 33 East Market Street in historic downtown Corning, New York, as seen in October 2022. The fourth and newest full-power television station in the Elmira-Corning media market, WYDC was granted its FCC license in 1988, and after an abortive attempt to establish it as a Christian broadcaster, finally hit the airwaves six years later as an independent station broadcasting mostly first-run syndicated series, locally-oriented informational programming, and a robust selection of animated cartoons. Initially the flagship station of Standfast Broadcasting's "Big TV" network - something of a miniature media empire in New York's Southern Tier which would eventually include additional stations in Bath, Elmira, Hornell, Watkins Glen, and elsewhere - WYDC later became a Fox affiliate, which it remains today. The studio building is a sight to behold as well: a circa-1880 Victorian Eclectic extravaganza with some stunning decorative masonry work above the second-story windows. |
