Summary[edit]
DescriptionWWII Toxic Yard at Charters Towers.jpg |
English: During WWII, the US established a very large (but never used) stock pile of chemical weapons, particularly bombs filled with mustard agent. A major depot for the Pacific Theater was located near Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia, operated by the 760th Chemical Deport Company (Aviation) of the US Army Air Forces. This hand-drawn map shows the layout of the "Toxic Yard" where bombs were stored. The map was included in the Company's Organizational History Reports from 1944, and was declassified in 2009 in accordance with a broad executive order by the Obama administration. In late 1944, the depot and the 760th Company moved to Oro Bay, New Guinea. |
