English: Titled: "Back to a Coast Guard assault transport comes this Marine after two days and nights of Hell on the beach of Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands. His face is grimey with coral dust but the light of battle stays in his eyes." February 1944. 26-G-3394. Pvt Theodore James Miller (12 February 1925 – 24 March 1944) from Minnesota returns to attack transport USS Arthur Middleton (APA-25) at 14:00 after two days of combat on Engebi, the first of the Eniwetok Atoll to be invaded by American forces. Most defenders were killed. Miller died in a firefight at Ebon Atoll a month later.[1] |
