Swatow-schalen en Martavanen. De collectie Zhangzhou (Swatow) schotels en Martavanen in Keramiekmuseum Princessehof behoorden vroeger tot de omvangrijke verzamelingen van Anne Tsjibbes van der Meulen en Reinier Verbeek. Uit het Viertalig aanvullend hulpwoordenboek voor Groot-Nederland van Franciscus Petrus Hubertus Prick van Wely (Q104631546): martavaan is reeds in 1677 etymologisch verklaard door P.v.d. B(roeck) in zijn Curieuse beschrijving van verscheyde Oost-Indische gewesten p. 121: ‘Potten, groot en kleyn, die men naar het land Martavanen noemt’. Dit land is het aan Siam grenzende gewest Martaban, thans een deel van de Britsche provincie Tenasserim, met de gelijknamige, in vroeger eeuwen een grooten handel drijvende hoofdstad Martaban.
