Ein langsames Siechtum der letzten degenierten Lebensformen hin bis zum endgültigen Wärmetode war eine reale thermodynamisch motivierte Dystopie des 19ten Jahrhunderts. Wärmetod ist ein von Rudolf Clausius 1867 eingeführtes Bild für den „Zustand […] des finalen thermischen Gleichgewichts des Universums“.
