Nemecký útok na Strečno sa začal 31. augusta 1944 o 8. hodine ráno. Po delostreleckej a mínometnej príprave, vedenej do priestoru obranných postavení práporov „Šlajchart“, „Repašský“ a oddielu francúzskych partizánov, vyrazila z obcí Trnové a Mojšova Lúčka nemecká pechota v sile práporu. Vďaka podpornej paľbe povstaleckých batérií sa obrancom podarilo tento útok odraziť a Nemci sa stiahli do východiskového postavenia.Delostreleckú podporu povstalcov tvorila batéria 105 mm kanónov vz. 35 npor. Pačutu a batéria 76,5 mm kanónov vz. 30 por. Ružičku. Batéria npor. Pačutu sa rozmiestnila v palebnom postavení západne od Vrútok. Pozorovateľňu si zriadila na výšine Domašín. Batéria kpt. Ružičku mala palebné postavenie v priestore Dubná Skala, severozápadne od Vrútok, a za úlohu mala rušiť postup Nemcov v priestore Mojšova Lúčka.
