Deutsch: ...NRW-Umweltminister Johannes Remmel (rechts) und Prof. Dr. Karsten Lemmer, DLR Vorstand für Energie und Verkehr zeigen die 20 Millimeter dicken Aluminiumplatten, die mit Hilfe des gebündelten Lichts in wenigen Minuten durchschmolzen wurden.
Die DLR-Großforschungsanlage "Synlight" in Jülich ist die größte künstliche Sonne der Welt. Das Licht von bis zu 149 Hochleistungsstrahlern kann auf einen bis drei Versuchsaufbauten parallel gebündelt werden. Lichtquelle der Strahler ist ne eine 7000 Watt starke Xenon-Kurzbogenlampe, die sonst in Kinopropjektoren verwendet werden. Als Werkzeug für die Erforschung der solaren Treibstoffproduktion und Prüfung neuer Werkstoffe kann "Synlight" das bis zu 10.000-Fache der Sonnenstrahlung auf der Erdöberfläche erreichen ohne vom Wetter abhängig zu sein. Das beschleunigt künftige Forschung immens und bringt neue Erkenntnisse für die Energiewende.
