Description

Back in The Drains - down I think what is Via P. R. Giuliani (according to the map I've got).

Directly ahead is the Bell Tower of Sorrento Cathedral.

The bell tower in three stories, topped by a belfry originally meant to house bells. The bell tower is decorated with a clock with a fine polychrome face, while the architectural elements of the base date to Roman times.

From Amalfi Sorrento (a book I bought in Amalfi).

On the left is the Dominova Seat (Sedil Dominova).

The day I took these it was closed, but later in the week it was open with tables and chairs for the restaurant opposite.

Down Via S. Cesareo.

Sedile Dominova - This curious name refers to one of the most characteristic buildings in the historical centre of Sorrento. It is actually a 15th century loggia, square in plan with large round Romanesque arches on its two open sides. They are supported on engaged columns with floral motives decorating the capitals. The ensemble is dominated by an airy 17th century dome, faced with two colour tiles which confer an oriental air on the building.

"Sedile" (or seat) is the name used to indicate a faction of the noble families of Sorrento who met here to deal with local problems. Inside, the 18th century frescoes and the numerous coats of arms of the illustrious families of Sorrento who belonged to the "sedile" are of particular note and are set off by the fine decorative elements of the architecture.

From a book I got in Amalfi - Amalfi Sorrento.
