Description
Français : Donjon et mur d'enceinte ruines château Pouzauges (85), XI-XIIe s.

Dominant la cité vendéenne et ses 5 500 hab. du haut de ses 26 m, à 245 m d'altitude, sa courtine se développe sur plus de 350 m. L'ouvrage, de type "niortais", c'est-à-dire tour carrée avec contreforts circulaires, est bâti par la puissante famille de Thouars.

Au XVe Catherine, épouse de Gilles de Rais, habite le lieu et l'embellit. Elle quitte le domaine après l'exécution de son mari, en 1440.
