Summary

[edit]
Description This photo was taken in Victoria County, Texas. This soil is formed in clayey alluvium on less than 1% slope. The surface horizons to a depth of 26 cm average 25% clay and contain more than 1% organic carbon. Clay content in the argillic horizon averages 40%. Base saturation is nearly 100% throughout the profile. Wedge-shaped peds with cracks greater than 5mm are present in the argillic horizon, identifying a close relationship to Vertisols and the Vertic Subgroup classification. A water table is apparent at 400 cm. The primarily use of these soils is rangeland.
