Produced at the New OrleansOpera March 19, 1860, and in New Orleans on February 6, 1861, Patti sang in the opera forthe first time. First New York production November 2, 1857, and since that time the operahas seldom been absent from the American stage. A notable performance occurred Novem-ber 23, 1903, at the Metropolitan Opera House, when Caruso made his American debut.November 4, 1912, Ruffo made his debut in the United States at the Metropolitan OperaHouse, Philadelphia, in Rigoletto.
