ACT I SCENE I—Ballroom in the Dukes Palace As a fete is in progress in the ducal residence, the Duke confides to one of his courtiersthat he is about to make a new conquest. For some months he has seen a young andbeautiful girl at church, but knows nothing of her except that she is visited often by aman who is supposed to be her lover. The Duke then sings his first air, Questa o quella.
