Русский: Этот акварельный рисунок Арнольда Боррета (1848-1888 гг.) состоит из нескольких эскизов, изображающих разных членов общества и этнические группы, составляющие население голландской колонии Суринам в конце 80-х годов XIX века. Боррет был выдающимся художником-любителем, а также адвокатом и католическим священником. Он изучал право в Университете Лейдена, а затем, с 1878 года, занимался адвокатской практикой до тех пор, пока не стал чиновником Верховного суда в Парамарибо. Borret était un artiste amateur accompli et également un avocat et prêtre catholique romain. Il étudia le droit à l'Université de Leiden et le pratiqua à Rotterdam avant de devenir greffier en 1878, à la Cour suprême de Paramaribo. Il devint prêtre en 1883, dans l'intention de travailler avec les lépreux au Suriname. Il mourut du typhus en 1888. Borret est également connu pour son dessin de l'intérieur de la Cathédrale des Saints Pierre et Paul de Paramaribo, l'une des plus grandes structures de bois dans les Caraïbes. Cette aquarelle provient des collections du KITLV/L'Institut Royal Néerlandais d’études de l’Asie du Sud-Est et des Caraïbes à Leiden.

Borret was an accomplished amateur artist who was also a lawyer and a Roman Catholic priest. He studied law at the University of Leiden and practiced in Rotterdam before becoming a clerk, in 1878, to the Supreme Court in Paramaribo. He became a priest in 1883, with the intention of working with lepers in Suriname. He died of typhus in 1888. Borret is also known for his design for the interior of the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Paramaribo, one of the largest wooden structures in the Caribbean. This watercolor is from the collections of the KITLV/Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies in Leiden.
