We can hardly imagine amore desirable site for a park, and when rapid transitoffers its facilities to the people, this part of Brooklynwhich is naturally a beautiful and healthful section willbecome one of the most attractive residential districts inGreater New York. Kings Highway, that old road whichhas done service for centuries, will become the great cir-cuit boulevard of this entire district, regaining once morethe supremacy it possessed in the good old colonial days.It is strange how some old things last. The old bridgeover Gerritsens inlet is the same old bridge the farmerscrossed on their way to the busy little mill on the creek,and the mill itself still stands just as of yore. GEORGE WASHINGTON Portrait by Gilbert Stuart From the private collection of Mr. James Speyer, New York According to Masons Lift of Stuart, there were three por-traits of General Washington painted by Gilbert Stuart from life.The one of which this is a photograph (painted in 1795), showingthe right side of the face. Then the so-called Lansdowne por-trait, painted in 1796, and the picture in the Boston Athenaeum,both of which show the left side of the face. It is from the lastmentioned picture that the many well-known copies of StuartsWashington are made. Of the first picture, and its history prior to 1815, little is knowngenerally. It is not known for whom it was painted, but thereare five known replicas of it. According to an article in TheCurio for September, 1S87, the original had been in the possessionof a Mr. Michael Little, of Greenwich Street. New York, fromwhom, in 1815, Mr. Sa
