When the first volume of this work wasoffered to the public, it was received with comparativeindifference; when the second volume appeared, a fewyears later, it seemed to revive interest in the undertaking,but with the appearance of the third volume, the sales ofthe two preceding numbers were greatly accelerated andthe success of the book was fully assured.
