In WO II werd ook in Bellegem de grote bronzen klok meegenomen door de Duitsers om te hergebruiken voor oorlogsmateriaal. Daarbij zou de foutieve draagbeuk doorgezaagd zijn, waarna de kerktoren meer en meer begon schuin te hellen en uiteindelijk hersteld werd omdat het te gevaarlijk werd. Bron van deze unieke mondelinge informatie: Jerome Vandenbroecke à VAN BELLE Jean Marc(intussen overleden dakwekker van vijf generaties) die prijs moest opgeven bij de herstelling maar niet in aanmerking werd genomen. Ook de dorpspastoor had deze informatie NIET gevonden in zijn archieven en was dankbaar voor deze info.
