Activities of a varied and important character have claimed the attention and proflt-ted by the energy and cooperation of Henry Lewis. No movement for the general goodseeks his aid in vain. He is the bishop of the Lehi third ward and in business affairshis name is a prominent and honored one. He is conducting an extensive real estate,insurance and collection business and is identified with many corporate interests whichfeature largely in the development and progress of his section of the state. Mr. Lewis was born in Llanelly, Wales, April 28, 1854, a son of Philip and Catherine(Evans) Lewis. The father was foreman of an iron foundry in Wales until he cameto America. He arrived in Utah in 1868 and was afterward joined by his wife, his sonHenry and four daughters, while later another brother and sister joined the family. I

HENRY LEWIS UTAH SINCE STATEHOOD 707 The children were: Mary, who, was the wife of Benjamin Lilly white, now deceased;William; Margaret, who is now the widow of George Dallimore; Henry; Ruth, who isnow Mrs. James Webb; Catherine, the wife of Professor Edward Evans, professor ofart in the University of Utah; Christiana, who was born on Christmas day, hence hername, and who is now the wife of Joseph Empey; and Maria, the wife of Alfred Empey,a brother of her sister Christianas husband. The father of the family after coming toUtah resided at Beaver for a year and subsequently worked on the railroad to the timeof his death, which occurred at Lehi, Utah, September 19, 1899, when he was seventy-six years of age, his birth having occurred February 13, 1823. He was a high priest andpresident of the High Priests at Sandy. Henry Lewis acquired a common school education in his native land and afterwardlearned the masons trade and also worked in a foundry in early life. On arrivingin Utah he help
