[edit]DescriptionUpside down map of York, Upper Canada - 1833-10-31.png |
Original caption: " No.1 Plan of the Town and Harbour of York is dated 31 October 1833, 25 years before storms made the great sandbars into islands. Colborne’s location for “the new Barracks and Work around them” is at A, the old fort is at B, and the lighthouse (still standing today) at C. The egg shape in the centre of the map is a firm sandbar, giving the new fort a perfect command of the narrow harbour entrance. Captain Bonnycastle signed the map. Source: LAC NMC 16818 " |
