Up Close And Personal |
Description |
500px provided description: "The flower is the poetry of reproduction. It is an example of the eternal seductiveness of life." ~Jean Giraudoux Lily flowers contain a miniature seed factory at their centers. The ovary is located at the base of the flower, usually not visible beneath the flower petals. Attached to the ovary is the style, the tube leading up to the stigma. These three parts make up the pistil. All around the pistil are the stamens. Filaments branch upward from the center of the flower with anthers full of pollen attached at the top. Many lilies are monoecious, meaning that they contain both male and female flowers on the same plant. This is sometimes also called a perfect flower.
