Summary[edit]

Description

The Ugaritic alphabet shown in rows right-to-left with the nearest equivalent Hebrew-alphabet letters under each Ugaritic letter.
Notes: The letters ח and ע should be understood as having their older (Sephardic) values as pharyngeal consonants. The letter ו is used with its older sound value of [w]. The overline or rafe diacritic indicates a fricative pronunciation of a letter which basically writes a stop sound (in modern Israeli Hebrew, the spellings ד׳ and ת׳ are sometimes used to write what is shown here as ד with rafe and ת with rafe, or [ð] and [θ]). The letters equivalent to ק, צ, ט, and ט with rafe overline diacritic were "emphatic" in Ugaritic.

For further explanations on the Ugaritic side, see the image description page File:Ugaritic-alphabet-chart.svg .
