Summary[edit]

Description
English: Women's Month: Books for children in African languages are scarce - so children do not get the opportunity to read in their home languages. The ITHUBA (Zulu for “opportunity”) Program has changed - South African schoolchildren in grades 4 to 6 are enjoying more than 2.3 million books written in their home languages. The majority of the newly trained teachers and artists are women, like the one in this photograph. The Ithuba Writing Project partnership involved the University of Texas at San Antonio collaborating with USAID and South Africa’s Department of Education. Uebersetzungsbuero
