Description
Deutsch: Kupferstich zur Illustration des vierzehnten Kapitels „Ueber die Nationfeste“ aus dem Buch von Franciscus Antonius Obermayr: Bildergalerie katholischer Misbräuche. Frankfurt und Leipzig 1784, zwischen den Seiten 144 und 145. Zugehörige Erklärung des Autors, zitiert von S. 156 ff.:
  1. Eine Kirche. Der Hauptaltar ist von oben bis unten beleuchtet —
  2. Der mittlere Theil des Altars gerät in Brand.
  3. Die Gestliche laufen der Sakristey zu.
  4. Ein Frater bemüht sich, mit einer Stange, an der nasse Fetzen befestigt sind, die Flamme zu löschen, schlägt aber im Eifer das Bild des Nationpatrons herab.
  5. Von einem Seitenchor gießt ein andrer Frater Wasser gegen den Altar, das aber, weil der Altar zu sehr entfernet ist, auf die ohnehin erschrockene Gemeinde herabstürzt.
  6. Ein Theil des Volks drängt sich gegen die Kirchenthür zu. Man sieht Perücken und Hauben dabey verloren gehen.
  7. Zur untern Thüre wird eine grosse Feuerspritze hereingezogen. Feuerknechte und Kaminfeger begleiten sie.
  8. Die Wache macht sich mit Stockschlägen und Rippenstössen unter der andächtigen Gemeinde Platz.
