Summary[edit]

Description

U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and escorts underway in the Gulf of Tonkin. One of the carriers in the center is USS Coral Sea (CVA-43). The carriers on the left and right are Essex-class carriers. As the carrier visible in the center appears to be USS Midway (CVA-41), the photo could have been taken in March 1965.

Coral Sea, with assigned Attack Carrier Air Wing 15 (CVW-15), was deployed to Vietnam from 7 December 1964 to 1 November 1965.
