Four Japanese boys show their appreciation for the newly-installed air conditioning units at the Arahama Community Center, Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Japan, July 20. The center received six window units, courtesy of a joint effort between the U.S. military and Japan Self-Defense Forces. The team will install the units at various locations in the area. Fifteen Seabees from Naval Air Facility Atsugi were sent to the area to help in the effort, still reeling from the effects of a July 16 earthquake. The quake killed 10 and left more than 1,200 injured, and destroyed nearly 1,000 homes and damaged 4,000 others. In the first days following the quake, more than 9,000 citizens were sent to evacuation centers, many which do not have air conditioning. While the numbers of residents living in the centers gets smaller each day; more than 3,000 people are still housed in them. The Arahama facility received six of the units.
