English: Bankouale, Djibouti (May 18, 2006) - The Sultan of Tadjoura, left, Abdoulaker Moumat Houmed hosted Rear Admiral Richard W. Hunt at his home near Tadjoura, Djibouti for a ceremonial exchange of gifts. Also pictured is Afar language translator Aref Hamadou. Hunt is the first American to meet with the tribal leader of the Afar people, a nomadic group of tribes who live in Djibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia. The United States Military has established a presence in the Horn of Africa in order to deter terrorism and deny a foothold to terrorist groups.
