Description
English: (Navy File Photo) – The Department of Defense has confirmed that Signalman 2nd Class Christopher E. Watts, 28, of Knoxville, Tenn., was killed after an unidentified Dhow exploded while he was participating in Maritime Interception Operations (MIO) in the Northern Arabian Gulf. Also killed were Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Michael J. Pernaselli, 27, of Monroe, N.Y., and a U.S. Coast Guardsman. All three died from various injuries when the Dhow exploded and violently overturned their Ridgid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB). Both Sailors were assigned to a Visit Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) team deployed from USS Firebolt (PC 10), a 174-foot Cyclone-class coastal patrol craft. U.S. Navy Photo (RELEASED)
