English: (Navy File Photo) – The Department of Defense has confirmed that Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Michael J. Pernaselli, 27, of Monroe, N.Y., was killed after an unidentified Dhow exploded while he was participating in Maritime Interception Operations (MIO) in the Northern Arabian Gulf. Also killed were Signalman 2nd Class Christopher E. Watts, 28, of Knoxville, Tenn., and a U.S. Coast Guardsman. All three died from various injuries when the Dhow exploded and violently overturned their Ridgid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB). Both Sailors were assigned to a Visit Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) team deployed from USS Firebolt (PC 10), a 174-foot Cyclone-class coastal patrol craft. U.S. Navy Photo (RELEASED) |
