English: Arlington, Va. (Feb. 20, 2004) – During full military burial honors for Adm. Thomas H. Moorer at Arlington National Cemetery, Mrs. Carrie Moorer receives the National Ensign from retired Vice Adm. Joe P. Moorer, Adm. Moorer’s surviving brother. Adm. Moorer is a graduate of the Naval Academy class of1933 and went on to served as the Chief of Naval Operations from 1967-1970, whereupon he was appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a post he held until his retirement in 1974. A former naval aviator, Moorer earned many medals and honors during his career, including the Department of Defense Distinguished Service Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
