Summary[edit]
DescriptionUSS Zumwalt (13081689514).jpg |
I took this from a bridge across the Kennebec River from the Bath Iron Works facility in Bath, Maine. The facility has very high security due to the nature of the warships that are built and serviced here. The light was not ideal at mid-day and I should go back in the morning. This class of warships is one of the most technologically advanced in the US Navy. The design is intended to provide a low radar profile. It is loaded with electronics. The first ever Zumwalt-class destroyer was launched into the Kennebec River next to the Bath, Maine shipyard of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) — the company that built the ship. The USS Zumwalt (DDG1000) is largest destroyer ever built by BIW at 600 feet and has been under construction since 2009. This is the largest ship Bath Iron Works has ever constructed and the Navy’s largest destroyer. The launch was unprecedented in both its size and complexity. |
