Description 060602-N-6463B-008 Mediterranean Sea (June 2, 2006) - The guided-missile frigate USS Simpson (FFG 56) and Spanish, and Moroccan ships follow the amphibious assault ship USS Saipan (LHA 2) during an exercise in the Mediterranean Sea. Saipan is participating in a multi-national combined exercise with North African and European forces during exercise Phoenix Express. The exercise provides U.S. and allied forces an opportunity to participate in diverse maritime training scenarios helping to increase maritime domain awareness and strengthen emerging and enduring partnerships.
