Description |
English: The U.S. Navy auxiliary USS Du Pont (AG-80) underway on 6 October 1944, probably passing under the Charleston Harbor bridge. She is wearing Camouflage Measure 32, Design 3D. Du Pont had been commissioned as destroyer DD-152 on 30 April 1919. After overhaul and refresher training, Du Pont put into Charleston Navy Yard, South Carolina (USA), on 16 September 1944 to undergo conversion to an auxiliary vessel. She was reclassified AG-80 on 25 September 1944 and disarmed for target-service duties: she was fitted with a towing winch on the fantail and two torpedo-recovery derricks amidships, with racks on deck for recovered torpedoes. She retained the camouflage applied during her final destroyer refit. |
