WASHINGTON (June 28, 2016) An artist rendering of the future USS Bougainville (LHA 8). Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Ingalls Shipbuilding division is scheduled to begin construction in the fourth quarter of 2018, and delivery is expected in 2024. Bougainville will retain the aviation capability of the America-class design while adding a well deck capable of launching two landing craft air cushion hovercraft or one landing craft utility. Bougainville will have a larger flight deck configured for Joint Strike Fighter and Osprey V-22 aircraft. (U.S. Navy photo illustration courtesy of Huntington Ingalls Industries/Released) |
