Description

HAND HELD RADIATION DETECTOR.

IN A COLLABORATION BETWEEN LBNL AND LLNL, SCIENTISTS HAVE DEVELOPED A MOBILE, HAND HELD, MECHANICALLY COOLED GERMANIUM RADIATION SPECTROMETER THAT DETECTS SIGNATURE GAMMA-RAYS FROM RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS. RESEARCHERS SAY THE DEVICE, CALLED CRYO3, CAN DETERMINE THE TYPES OF RADIOACITVE MATERIALS NO MATTER WHERE THEY MIGHT BE LOCATED, AT A BORDER CROSSING, IN AN AIRPORT OR EVEN ON A PERSON.
