Description Service Members from the U.S. Coast Guard, along with family and friends of the victims of the USS Serpens, attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the USS Serpens Memorial in Section 34 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Jan. 29, 2020. This day marked the 75th anniversary of the explosion and destruction of the USS Serpens (AK-97), which was the largest single disaster suffered by the Goast Guardin World War II. 250 service members, the majority who were Coast Guardsmen, lost their lives in this incident.
