Description
English: The American flag flies at half-staff over the U.S. Capitol in honor of former astronaut and Senator John Glenn, who passed away today at the age of 95, Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016. Glenn was the first American to orbit Earth and later served four terms as a U.S. Senator from Ohio. In 1998 Glenn became the oldest person to fly in space when he launched aboard space shuttle Discovery as part of the STS-95 crew.
