Summary[edit]

Description

María Angélica Pérez was born in San Martín, province of Buenos Aires, on August 17, 1897. In 1905 her family moved to Pergamino, and two years later, together with one of her sisters, she entered the "Hogar de Jesús". In this educational institution, in charge of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Garden, she remained a pupil until the end of 1915. Feeling the Lord's call to follow him more closely, she entered the novitiate at the Provincial House of the Garden Sisters in Villa Devoto, Buenos Aires. A year later, with the dress of the religious habit, she begins to be called Sr. María Crescencia, in honour of the holy martyr Crescencio, whose relics were placed on the high altar of the Chapel of the Provincial House.

The Congregation was founded in Chiávari (Italy) by San Antonio María Gianelli on January 12, 1829. This was in order to respond to a need at that time "to provide good teachers and directors to the poor orphans" and with a very precise program: "Do good, always good ... with a charity without borders and without limits." This translates into love and service to the brothers in schools, hospitals, homes, missions and in every work of good from the charism of the Vigilant Evangelical Charity.

Sister Crescencia, after doing her first Religious Profession in 1918, was sent to the Colegio del Huerto in the city of Buenos Aires, where she taught catechism and gave work training classes to pupils and external girls. Always ready to fulfil God's will, she was sent to continue serving in the care field at the end of 1924. She traveled to Mar del Plata, to the Maritime Sanatorium, where she was responsible for the care and education of girls with bone tuberculosis. From that moment on, her commitment to the sick will be a constant in her work, so much so that as a result, she contracted a serious lung condition. She remained in Mar del Plata until 1928. Then, because of this fragile state of health, her superiors decided to send her to Vallenar (northern Chile), where the climate would be more benevolent. She continues there, together with the Sisters of the Community, working with the patients hospitalised in the Nicolás Naranjo hospital. In Valllenar, Chile, in 1932, María Crescencia died serenely and in the concept of holiness, after suffering a great disease.
