| Description |
English: Trunk Road near Chicklade Bottom. This is the dual-carriageway A303 Basingstoke to Honiton trunk road descending to Chicklade Bottom, a dry enclosed valley flanked by the chalk downs of west Wiltshire. The road is usually very busy with traffic travelling at high speed down the hill, but there was a fortuitous break in the traffic. At the bottom of the hill, the dual carriageway fairly abruptly comes to an end. The dualling of the stretch of the road along Chicklade Bottom, and other similar sections either side near Wylye and Mere has been planned for a long time.
The road on the left is a tarmaced farm road that comes up from Chicklade Bottom and provides access to farmland on this side of the A303, and further up, behind the camera, it crosses under the trunk road to the woods of Fonthill Bushes and the eastern end of Great Ridge, see 469666. |
