Notes Undress blue trousers, NZ Territorials, NZE, (1934-1939) Belonged to Col. LF Rudd, NZE. Note- also worn post-WW2 Col. 'Laurie' Rudd was known as 'The Good Sapper'. Born in Christchurch on 13-1-1898, he was educated at Auckland Grammar School and had started law studies but quit to enlist as a private in the NZEF. He was wounded at Meteren and taken as a prisoner of war. As such he became a beneficiary of the Red Cross. In 1919 following his repatriation he was demobilised. Back in New Zealand he married and took up his studies and set up a law practise in Auckland Laurie Rudd served as a Major in the Territorials Commanding the 1st Field Co NZ Engineers and with the onset of WW2 During WW2 he left for Egypt with the 1st Echelon as Officer Commanding the 6th Field Company. He was in charge of demolitions during the retreat from Greece and left in the last destroyer , receiving the Distinguished Service Order for his role in this action. On return to Egypt he became military secretary to the NZEF and was promoted as Lieutenant Colonel. In mid 1944 he was posted to the UK to arrange for the reception of New Zealand Prisoners of War - Laurie Rudd died on 8-3-1973.
