On May 13, 2019, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of Tropical Cyclone Ann in the Coral Sea, off the east coast of Queensland, Australia.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: On May 13, 2019, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of Tropical Cyclone Ann in the Coral Sea, off the east coast of Queensland, Australia. Powerful storms were wrapping around the center of circulation that appeared to be a cloud-filled eye, and a large, thick bands of thunderstorms extended from the center to the southeast.

At 8 a.m. EDT (10 p.m. AEST local time) on Monday, May 13, 2019, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) noted that Ann is a Category 1 storm, with sustained winds near the center of 46 mph (75 km/h). Ann was centered near 15.2 degrees South latitude and 151.5 degrees East longitude. That is about 398 miles (640 kilometers) east northeast of Cairns. Ann was moving to the west-northwest at 17 miles (27 kilometers) per hour.

By May 14, Ann had lost enough wind speed to have lost cyclone status and was approaching the Queensland coast as a tropical low. It is expected to pass over the Queensland coast near Coen, south of Lockhart River on May 15. Previously issued cyclone warnings have been cancelled.
