[edit]DescriptionTrinity and Newhaven Railway Station - geograph.org.uk - 355085.jpg |
English: Trinity & Newhaven Railway Station The old railway station at Trinity. Now residential. Pity about the red fencing but...
Note the old stone platforms left and right. I remember the platforms looking rather spectacular twenty years ago. Part of Edinburgh Cyclepath Network. In 1842 the Edinburgh, Leith & Newhaven Railway opened a line from Scotland Street to Trinity. Two years later it was reconstituted as the Edinburgh, Leith & Granton Railway and in 1846 when the line was extended to Granton a new through station was built alongside the terminus and from there the line curved to the west and followed the coast a short distance to reach Granton station located inside the harbour on Granton Pier NT237774 Trinity station was closed by the LNER on 2 November 1925 and the railtracks were lifted in 1986 http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_edin_t/0_edinburgh_transport_railways_trinity_station_end_of_the_line.htm With thanks to Ralph Rawlinson, who has provided me with some helpful information with the historical notes.
