Summary[edit]

Primary inner coil is dense, thin wire, high number (N1) of windings. Secondary, outer coil is think wire, relatively low number (N2) of windings compared to primary.

    V2   N2
    -- = --
    V1   N1

which means that V2 = V1 * N2 / N1.

With currents it is the opposite case.

    I2   N1
    -- = --
    I1   N2

which means that the stronger current is in the secondary coil, hence the thick wire.
