made; there was a slight wind, and the temperature was the same ason the trip out. The make-up of the train was as follows, Prom Hilliary to Muncie, Dynamometer Car 6 Loaded coal cars4 » box 1 Empty 1 Scale car 7 Loaded box cars 1 Caboose Total Weight 592.6 T. From Muncie to Oakwood, Dynamometer Car7 Loaded coal cars4 box »1 Empty »1 Scale car7 Loaded box cars 1 Caboose Total Weight 631.0 T. Prom Oakwood to Urbana, Dynamometer Car7 Loaded coal cars4 box » 1 Scale car •7 Loaded box cars 1 Caboose Total Weight 615.8 T. This train is practically a loaded train. The conditions of weather were somewhat unfavorable in thistest; but, with the exception of the high wind on the trip out, t ywere not extraordinary and the results obtained on the return tripmay be considered as being average values. It is to be expectedthat the results found on the trip out are affected by the wind, es-pecially since the train consisted of empty cars. They are probablysomewhat high for ordinary conditions.

The sources of errorare the samp as those stated on page 51. The headings of the table are the same as those of the table for Test No. 1. In this test we have resistances for both empty and loadedcars. The speeds for the loaded train range between 20 and 25 milesper hour and those for the train of empty cars between 23 and 35miles per hour. The results are plotted in Plate 4 and an averageline is drawn for each set. It is to be noted that the points whichare above the lines represent resistances which were
