Summary[edit]
DescriptionTrain on Tay Bridge - geograph.org.uk - 1415606.jpg |
English: Train on Tay Bridge The houses at sea level on the left are at Balmerino in North Fife, and the hill on the skyline above the train is Norman's Law 285m. On the fateful night of 28th December 1879, during a violent storm, the first bridge collapsed taking with it a train carrying over seventy passengers. The train fell into the murky waters of the River Tay leaving no survivors. You can see the stumps of the first bridge. Maintenance work continues to prevent the bridge collapsing again! |
